“Skoga” is one of the series of furniture included in NK:s “Sporstugemöbler”, “sports cabin’s furniture”. Axel Einar Hjorth designed them in the 1930s, heeding the call of the new, contemporary ideal of having a healthy, athletic lifestyle. This ideal, combined with the fact that Swedes had been given a legal right to vacation, led to more people acquiring vacation homes. These homes needed to be furnished, and for that purpose NK offered Hjorth’s rustic furniture in world class design. The furniture series are named after islands in Stockholm’s archipelago and small Swedish towns. They were often made from pine, while some more exclusive models were also made in solid oak. They are known for their singular modernist lines with traditional influences and how their construction is often made into a feature of their designs.
