Pewter box with a brass rim by Nils Fougstedt. The lid is inscribed with the last verse of a poem by the poet Lars Wiwallius (1605-1669), called “Klago-Wijsa” (“Ballad of Lament”). The poem was written during a long period of imprisonment. The verse reads as follows:

Translation:

“Give joy and solace, do not let the lark die, let live the swallow of summer! Give comfort to each heart on the island of Sweden, that speaks words of sorrow! Give summer, give flowers, give good green hay, let the cuckoo call out and crow!”
