Pewter jar with brass knob. Designed by Herman Bergman, who was the founder of Herman Bergman’s Fine Art Foundry, purveyor to the Royal Court. Beautiful execution.

The images depicted are from the Bassai (sometimes spelled Bassae) Frieze, which was originally a part of the Temple of Apollo Epikourios at Bassai, in Greece. The frieze is now on display at the British Museum and depicts a fight between the Greeks and Amazons, against the Centaurs and Lapiths.
